Blue Horse Mukwa Equine Retirement & Rescue Center

For Aged, Abused, Abandoned, Injured and Neglected Horses

Blue Horse Mukwa Equine Retirement & Rescue Center (for abused, abandoned and aged horses) 1400 West Road Chesapeake, Virginia 23323. Phone 757-323-2938

Blue Horse Mukwa Equine Retirement and Rescue Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, dedicated to providing good quality life for horses that have been determined by their owners to be past their prime, for horses that have suffered from neglect, abuse, injury and PMU Foals.

Each horse at the Center is provided with their own stall. They are fed twice a day and turned out to graze either in the morning or evening depending on the time of year.Every stall is cleaned daily and the pastures are raked on a regular basis to ensure a good clean area for the horses to graze.

Every horse is unique and each one has their own personality. Horses are special and deserve to be treated with honor, dignity and respect. They have served humans well, now they deserve to be treated with respect for their remaining years. Some, like the PMU (Pregnant Mare Urine)foals, have been rescued from almost certain slaughter.

Currently there are 18 horses and one donkey that will live out their lives at Blue Horse Mukwa Retirement and Recue Center. The oldest was 37, the youngest is a yearling.

THE HORSES WILL REMAIN HERE

Several people have asked what happens to the horses here, if we sell them or put them up for adoption. The answer is no. The 18 here will remain here for the rest of their lives. The horses will be used in programs for educational purposes. Some will be ridden, others will only be used to teach good grooming habits. We want the horses here to live good, happy and healthy lives.

FUTURE PLANS

We are currently doing programs that involve teaching people about the spirit of the horse; they are participating in special programs where they are learning every aspect of horse care. We have plans in the works to offer participation in therapeutic programs , for folks with different challenges in life. We believe that the spirit of the horse is healing and will benefit all those who come into contact with them.

We hope you will come back to visit our site often, as we will be updating frequently with information about each horse at Blue Horse Mukwa Equine Retirement and Rescue Center.
